Please meet your 2013 Miss Rodeo Lakeside
Mariah Hunt
Hello rodeo fans! My name is Mariah Hunt and I am Miss Rodeo Lakeside 2013. This year marks the 49th annual Lakeside Rodeo. I am truly blessed that I have been given the opportunity to represent this amazing rodeo and the dedicated people who work behind the scenes to put it on - The El Capitan Stadium Association.
I began riding when I was four years old and since the very beginning, my passion for horses has grown tremendously. I started off by taking lessons at a riding camp down the street from my house - I spent every summer out there! When I turned ten years old, my parents bought me my first horse Tuffy.
I am so grateful for the lessons I have learned through horses. Riding horses has not only taught me to have good posture, it has also taught me to be responsible and dedicated. I have learned to care for another, to be patient, and to always be hardworking because hard work will benefit you in the end. The life lessons I have learned will be with me my entire life and have helped to mold me into the person I am today.
Not only do I love the sport of rodeo and riding horses, but I was also active in my high school's soccer and field hockey teams. I currently attend Westview High School as a senior, and I am employed at Willow Grove Elementary School as a student aide. Working with children has opened my eyes to a new career, becoming an elementary school teacher. In the fall, I will be attending Miramar Community College. After finishing my general education requirements, I will then transfer to San Diego State University where I will major in education and apply for admittance into the teaching internship program.
The definition of rodeo is: A public competition or exhibition in which skills such as riding or roping are displayed. Rodeo IS a sport. Full of passion, confidence, and hard work. I am proud to represent my favorite sport - rodeo, and to educate others about this thrilling sport. My favorite event is barrel racing because I love to watch the team work between the animal athletes and the cowgirls, and who doesn't like a race?
Being crowned Miss Rodeo Lakeside 2013 is a privilege and a honor. I get to represent a great community, full of loving, caring and friendly people. Lakeside is not just a community, it is a family. Without the El Capitan Stadium Association, the Lakeside Rodeo wouldn't be possible. I am grateful for everything they do for the youth of Lakeside. Every year, the El Capitan Stadium Association donates over $150,000 to the youth of Lakeside. The Lakeside Rodeo is their largest fundraiser and allows them to support programs like youth sports, youth music and dance programs, and medications for children. The ECSA is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the children of Lakeside.
I am overjoyed that I have been given the opportunity to represent both the El Capitan Stadium Association and the Lakeside Rodeo. I will do my very best in representing them and spreading the word about the many great things they do.
Thank you all for coming to this years 49th annual Lakeside Rodeo, enjoy the show!
