U-Gene is quite the character and rodeo fans love him and they look forward to his running laps around rodeo arenas (with his mom “Dream with Me”, Flying U Rodeo).  U-Gene especially loves all the cheering of the fans as he circles the arenas.

Some of U-Gene’s favorite things are spending time with his mom, drinking milk, eating grass, playing in the pasture, grooming, traveling to exciting rodeos, and of course, all of his training and his cheering fans.

U-Gene: Flying U #317

Here is a “post” from U-Gene dated April 21, 2013

Howdy, friends!

I am U-Gene. My name comes from Greek name Ευγενιος (Eugenios) which was derived from the Greek word ευγενης (eugenes) meaning "well born".

Now, last time I got to tell you all about how I got my name, U-Gene. And let me tell you, once mom found out I had a real name she told me I would have to stop acting like such a baby all the time and get down to business!

I could tell mom was very serious as she said "You must listen, U-Gene...getting your name at such an early age is a great honor and also a great responsibility. Now you will need to do as I say and learn so that you may represent Flying U Rodeo Company well and carry on their tradition."

Well, I bet no one could tell I was a baby horse on the final day of the Red Bluff Roundup. The gate opened and out came me and mom! I heard the crowds cheering, I saw Matt Cohen's giant lens, and it made me feel great!

Mom and I did a few dramatic laps around the arena and we kept perfect time. (Reno even told me that he liked how we were on the same cadence!) I could feel the wind whipping through my mane and the fresh dirt kicking up around my legs as my little hooves pounded the ground. And just as I thought I could run and run all the way to the National Finals Rodeo, our performance was over.

As we trotted away from the arena and toward our pen and the roar of the crowd faded into the distance, I secretly wished the roars would never stop.

xoxo-
